The Seattle Seahawks (1-5 SU, 2-4 ATS) are looking for a break that will give them some badly-needed momentum. On Sunday they will try to get it against the San Francisco 49ers (2-5 SU & ATS) in an NFL contest that is set to take place at 4:15 PM ET at Candlestick Park (natural turf) in San Francisco.
Seattle has problems on offense. This time, it’s not so much a matter of the receivers being thin. But Matt Hasselbeck is sitting out with a bulging disk in his back, and the two guys holding down the fort – Seneca Wallace and Charlie Frye – can hardly be described as polished or productive NFL quarterbacks. Wallace threw for just 73 yards in last week’s 20-10 loss to Tampa Bay, and is averaging a paltry 3.2 yards an attempt on his throws. Frye started the week before against Green Bay and passed for 83 yards, and is averaging 3.6 yards an attempt. There is only one receiver (rookie tight end John Carlson) with more than 10 catches. And Julius Jones has gained 147 yards over the last three games, when this team really needs him the most.
San Francisco has enough concerns to keep itself busy, thank you. The Niners, in the wake of four straight losses, in which the team gave up 31, 30, 40 and 29 points, elevated defensive coach Mike Singletary to head coach, getting rid of Mike Nolan. There are many people around the NFL who feel Singletary is going to be a fine head coach, although I think we’ve heard that about others, including Cam Cameron (remember him?). Singletary says he has full faith in Mike Martz, the offensive coordinator. We do too, and recognize that Martz will need more time to get a genuine offense going in San Francisco. Right now, he has the guy most familiar with the offense running it (J.T. O’Sullivan), and he’s had his ups and downs, throwing 10 interceptions and getting sacked 29 times.

Seattle Pro Bowl defensive end Patrick Kerney is out indefinitely and getting a second look at what’s wrong with his surgically repaired shoulder. Found some cool widgets at statbeast.com. Take a look!
